2 Corinthians 5:20

20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

An ambassador is a high ranking minister of state or royalty sent to another state to represent his king or country.  By analogy, we are spiritual royalty, members of the royal family of God, and Jesus Christ is the King who has sent us into a foreign country, the world in which we live.

As believers and members of the family of God, our true home is heaven.

Philippians 3:20

20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;

There are some interesting points to be made regarding this principle of ambassadorship:

1.  An ambassador does not appoint himself.   We are appointed by God Himself at the moment we believe in Jesus Christ.

2.  The ambassador does not support himself.  We, as believers, are supported by God.  Remember, everything belongs to Him, and He has promised to support us with food, shelter, and clothing.  See Matthew 6:25-34.

3.  The ambassador’s instructions are always in written form, so there is no misunderstanding about what he should do.  We have all the policies, instructions, and concepts written for us in the complete Word of God.

4.  The ambassador does not belong to the country to which he is sent.  Remember, our citizenship is now in heaven!

5.  The ambassador does not live in the foreign country for his own personal interest.  Our lives here on earth are solely to serve the interest of the Lord.  The will of God should be the deciding factor in every decision we make.

6.  The ambassador does not treat any insult to himself as personal.  We, as believers, tolerate others and hold no grudges.  When you are treated unfairly, or insulted, you use this principle to leave the matter in the Lord' hand.

We should look at our lives as Christians in two separate functions.  We have our relationship with God, which is our private spiritual life, and our ambassadorship for God, which is our public spiritual life.

An ambassador is in constant service as a representative of his country.  Remember that everything you do, everything you say, every action in how you live your life is a reflection on the King that you represent here on earth.
