As a Christian, what are you scared of?  Are you scared of dying?  You shouldn’t be!  You know where you’re going to spend eternity.  I think there is something we should be a little more afraid of – and that’s not accomplishing God’s will or purpose for our life.

It’s so easy sometimes to think of the will of God as something that just affects us in peripheral ways.  But God has a specific plan just for YOU.

Jeremiah 29:11

11 "For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, "plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

God doesn’t force you to follow His will for your life.  But when you stand before Jesus Christ to give an account of your life, wouldn’t it be better to have done the will of God?  We so often struggle with the question, “what is God’s will for me in this situation?”  But God promises to let us know what His will is for us!

Psalms 32:8

8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;

I will counsel you with My eye upon you.

Psalms 25:12

12 Who is the man who fears the LORD?

He will instruct him in the way he should choose.

If you fear (the word means to respect, not to be afraid of) the Lord, you can have confidence that He will instruct and teach us the right way to go.  God is not a Father who wants us all wandering around, confused, trying to figure out which way He wants us to go!  He wants to direct us!

The first step in doing the will of God for your life is to want to do the will of God for your life.  It’s not a question of wanting things to turn out the way we want them to, it’s a question of wanting things to turn out the way God wants them to!  Only in God’s plan for your life will you find the real happiness that He wants you to have.

When you approach God truly wanting to do His will, then He promises to teach you the right way to go.  You can either accomplish your plan for your life, or you can submit to God’s plan for your life.

Isaiah 30:1a

1 "Woe to the rebellious children," declares the LORD,

"Who execute a plan, but not Mine,

Which one do you think is better?  Your way or God’s way?

Isaiah 55:8-9

8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways," declares the LORD.

9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

So are My ways higher than your ways

And My thoughts than your thoughts.
