God has fabulous blessings laid up for you. When you reach spiritual maturity, He releases those blessings to you. It’s not a reward for getting there, but the fact that you are now able to handle the blessings without being distracted by them.

Ephesians 1:2-3

2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

Notice – He HAS BLESSED US. These are not rewards, but blessings that He has already set aside for us. He just won’t give them to us until we can handle them! Would you give your son a Ferrari the day he turns 16? Of course not! Besides the insurance being outrageous, you recognize that he is not mature enough to handle it! The same principle applies with our Father, who knows exactly how much we can handle, and when.

What are these blessings like? Take a few minutes, and make a list of everything you want that you think will make you happy. Imagine wealth, family peace and harmony, friends, business success, respect from others. While these things may be a part of the blessings that God is holding for you, they are not the whole story:

1 Corinthians 2:9

9 but just as it is written,

"THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD,

AND WHICH HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN,

ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM."

These blessings that He has already deposited for you go way beyond anything you can even imagine! And maybe it’s just me, but I can imagine a lot!

It’s a lot like the principle today of an escrow account. God has irrevocably deposited these blessings into an escrow for us. They are held for us until we reach the point where we have the capacity to enjoy them without being distracted from our spiritual life.

1 Peter 1:4

4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

You may work hard, and get lucky and get some of the blessings you want. But there is only one way you will get the blessings that God (who knows what will really make you happy) has reserved for you. And that is to do it God’s way!

In Proverbs 8, wisdom (CHACHMA, the personification of the Word of God) is speaking:

Proverbs 8:18

18 "Riches and honor are with me, (that’s wealth in TIME)

Enduring wealth and righteousness. (that’s riches in ETERNITY)

Inside the Word of God is the path to spiritual maturity. With spiritual maturity come blessings far beyond anything you can imagine.

Ephesians 3:8

8 To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches in Christ,
