Eternal Life and Veracity.

To finish up our study of the characteristics of God, here are the last two.

  1. God is eternal life.  There was never a time that God did not exist; He has neither beginning nor end.

Psalms 90:2

2 Before the mountains were born

Or You gave birth to the earth and the world,

Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

This is one of those that’s really hard to grasp!  As limited as we are by time, we have a hard time imagining what eternal life really is.  But that’s what God has given us!  We will spend ETERNITY with Him.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we have no death facing us.  We like to think of death as the end of life, but the life we now have has no end – no death!

Deuteronomy 33:27a

27 "The eternal God is our dwelling place,

And underneath are the everlasting arms;

  1. God is absolute veracity.

All veracity means is that God is absolute truth.

Psalms 25:10a

10 All the paths of the LORD are lovingkindness and truth

Psalms 111:7-8

7 The works of His hands are truth and justice;

All His precepts are sure.

8 They are upheld forever and ever;

They are performed in truth and uprightness.

We’ve all heard someone say it before – “It’s the truth!”  You may have even been in a situation where someone told you what they thought was the truth, and it turned out not to be.

There will never be a time when what God tells you is not the absolute truth.  He is unable to be untruthful!

Numbers 23:19

19 "God is not a man, that He should lie,

Nor a son of man, that He should repent;

Has He said, and will He not do it?

Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

The knowledge that God is absolute truth should give us confidence when facing adversity.  He has made promises to protect us, to strengthen us, and to give us eternal life.  That means He will!

2 Samuel 7:28

28 "Now, O Lord GOD, You are God, and Your words are truth, and You have promised this good thing to Your servant.
