Are you afraid of being a victim of crime? Terrorism? Bird flu? Mad cow disease? There seem to be a lot of people today living in fear. But look what God says:
2 Tim 1:7
7 For god gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.
God does not want you to be afraid!
Jesus addressed this same issue:
Luke 12:4-5
4 "I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do.
5 "But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!
The key is this:
When you start to surrender to fear even in one little area, that fear begins to escalate and eventually gains control over your soul.
Satan wants you to fear, because it gives him control over you! When Satan gets you to fear, your spiritual life is put on hold.
Hebrews 2:14-15
14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood,
He Himself (that’s Jesus) likewise also partook of
the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of
death, that is, the devil, (Jesus has won
the victory over Satan, and made him powerless)
15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
Fear of death will make you subject to slavery. Fear will take over your soul.
Why are you scared of death, when death doesn’t even exist anymore for the believer? Once you are a believer:
Romans 8:15
15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"
Don’t live in fear of what the future holds. The worst that can happen to you is for you to be absent from the body, and face to face with the Lord. (2 Cor 5:8) In a place of no more sorrow, no more sickness, no more pain.
Once we are born again (John 3:3), that means we are delivered from that fear – we are never going to die!
Then we can live in:
John 8:32
32 and you will know the truth (first you have to know it, like so many believers today don’t), and the truth will make you free."
Then we will be free from fear of death.
I’m not saying you will never have any fear in your life. YOU WILL! The problem comes when you hold on to that fear and let it take over and consume you.
Look what David said:
Psalms 56:3-4
3 When I am afraid,
I will put my trust in You.
4 In God, whose word I praise, (It’s the word that can
save you from fear!)
In God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere man do to me?
Why live in fear of death?
1 Corinthians 15:55-57
55 "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?"
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;
57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Once you realize this, then Satan has no hold over you from fear of death. When you learn this truth, you will be truly free from fear.
