From your friend.
It’s important to choose your friends wisely. It’s fine to have lots of friends, but your true friends MUST be people who share your Biblical values.
Proverbs 13:20
20 He who walks with
wise men will be wise, (wise here is
CHACHMA – used for the wisdom from God)
But the companion
of fools will suffer harm.
Look at this passage:
Psalms 119:63
63 I am a companion of
all those who fear You,
And of those who keep
Your precepts.
David was a man who chose his friends carefully.
Psalms 101:6-7
6 My eyes shall be
upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me;
He who walks in a
blameless way is the one who will minister to me.
7 He who practices
deceit shall not dwell within my house;
He who speaks
falsehood shall not maintain his position before me.
Look at his friendship with Jonathan.
2 Samuel 1:26
26 "I am
distressed for you, my brother Jonathan;
You have been very
pleasant to me.
Your love to me was
more wonderful
Than
the love of women.
No that’s not a reference to homosexuality! David is saying that the love of a TRUE friend, who shares your faith, is better than the love from the opposite sex. (Remember that David was not the best example of love of women – he had 300 wives and concubines)
Here’s what made their friendship so perfect:
1 Samuel 20:23
23
"As for the agreement of which you and I have spoken, behold, the LORD
is between you and me forever."
As long as the love for God is in the middle of the friendship, then the friendship will be a real blessing to you. True Christian friendship is based on a mutually shared love of God, and on using His mental attitude and process of thinking. When you share this with other people, you will develop unbelievable friendships.
John 15:13
13 "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
