By this time, I guess you’ve figured out that Moses REALLY doesn’t want to go and lead the Israelites out of Egypt.  He’s made objection after objection, and every time God has given him the right perspective that will make Moses quit worrying.  It’s simply a matter of focusing on the character and promises of God, rather than your own shortcomings.

God has told Moses that He would handle everything.  But instead of trusting God to handle everything, Moses looks for excuses.  Now Moses is skating on thinner and thinner ice!

Exodus 4:10

10 Then Moses said to the LORD, "Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue."

When Moses says slow of speech, the Hebrew word means he’s a slow thinker, and slow of tongue means that he talks slowly as a result, and is hard to understand.

Apart from the fact that Moses is looking at his own problems instead of trusting God, now Moses is even lying!  If you study the teachings and speeches of Moses, you will see how eloquent he is.  One of my favorite verses is what Moses had to say to the Israelites when they were facing the Red Sea on the front, mountain ranges on both sides, and the entire Egyptian army to their rear:

Exodus 14:13-14

13 But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.

14 "The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent."

Now that’s eloquent! Even the New Testament speaks of the eloquence of Moses:

Acts 7:22

22 "Moses was educated in all the learning of the Egyptians, and he was a man mighty in words and deeds.

So what does God do AGAIN?  He reminds Moses that God Himself can handle the situation.  I love God’s reply here:

Exodus 4:11-12

11 The LORD said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?

12 "Now then go, and I, even I, will be with your mouth, and teach you what you are to say."

What a logical, calming response!  Again God tells Moses, I WILL HANDLE IT.

You would certainly think that by now, Moses would have figured out that if God was calling him to do something, then God would provide the means and the power to do it!

But still he doesn’t.  We’ll see tomorrow Moses’ last objection, and how God responds.  This time He won’t be quite so patient!  Moses is going to face consequences for arguing with God about His call.

How do you react when God calls you to do something?  Do you tell God why you can’t do it?  Or do you trust that if God wants you to do it, He will give you the power to do it?  Tomorrow I’ll give you a little personal example.
