Yesterday we saw Moses’ desperate attempt to get out of following the call of God.  God has reminded Moses time and time again that He Himself would provide the power to accomplish His Own will, but Moses keeps focusing on himself instead.  Remember yesterday Moses said that he couldn’t speak properly, and God answered “Who made your mouth!?”  Finally, Moses just comes out and says what he’s been thinking the whole time.

Exodus 4:13-16

13 But he said, "Please, Lord, now send the message by whomever You will."

The English translation sounds like Moses is agreeing to go, but he is really saying “Send someone else!”  Well, the Lord has had enough.  Now He gets angry!  This conversation is about to come to an end.  Moses is actually going to be disciplined:

14 Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, "Is there not your brother Aaron the Levite? I know that he speaks fluently. And moreover, behold, he is coming out to meet you; when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

15 "You are to speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I, even I, will be with your mouth and his mouth, and I will teach you what you are to do.

16 "Moreover, he shall speak for you to the people; and he will be as a mouth for you and you will be as God to him.

Moses is disciplined by God letting Aaron be his public speaker.  Moses will do the thinking, but Aaron will have to do the speaking for Moses!

But there is more discipline for Moses.  Moses was from the tribe of Levi, out of which came the priesthood.  The office of high priest was passed down from fathers to sons.  So who will be the high priest?  Aaron, not Moses!  Moses had a wife, but he never had any children that had any role in the spiritual life of Israel.  When Moses left Midian for Egypt, his wife went halfway, then cursed him and went home.  She took his sons and left.  Moses later marries an Ethiopian woman, but no mention is made of children.  So one of the greatest believers ever has no progeny.

But Aaron is willing to do God’s will.  He never argues when God gives him a command.  His descendants will be priests in Israel, even when Jesus comes back to rule for 1000 years!

I pray that you will each take this lesson of Moses to heart.  God has a specific call for your life, to do His will.  When you start to feel that God is leading you toward something, don’t think of all the reasons why you are not qualified to do it, but have faith that God will provide the power for His will to be accomplished.  You don’t want to be bypassed by God; as you see, it can have serious consequences!

I know from firsthand experience how easy it is to fall into the same trap as Moses did.  When my father was dying, he informed me that I was going to be taking over teaching his Sunday school class, which he had taught for 15 years.  (Notice, he never asked me whether I wanted to, or how I felt about it!)  I could spend 20 pages telling you all the reasons that I was not qualified to do it!  But now I realize that the task has absolutely nothing to do with my ability or power.  I can only imagine how much more relaxed and confident I would have been had I simply trusted God to accomplish what He wanted to accomplish in my life.

God is calling you, {{name}}, for something specific.  When you realize what it is, have faith that the power of God will accomplish it.
