Luke 4:38-40

38 Then He got up and left the synagogue, and entered Simon's home. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Him to help her.

Jesus has been teaching in the synagogue, and has been very well received.  Now he heads to Peter’s house.  (That’s Simon)

In the original Greek, it says that she had been SUNECHO, which means distressed or tormented by this fever for some time.  So they go to the one Person who could do something about the problem:  Jesus Christ.  Even though they are standing up with their eyes open, this is a prayer request!  They approached Him because they KNEW He could do something about it.  And does He?  YES!

39 And standing over her, He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and she immediately got up and waited on them.

Maybe I’m just old, but if I have fever and it finally breaks, I still have to spend a day in bed recovering.  But when Jesus Christ does something, He does it perfectly!  She is immediately and completely healed.

Peter’s mother-in-law had been suffering with this high fever for some time.  They had tried everything to break the fever, so they finally turn to the Lord for help.

Sometimes even we as Christians hesitate to ask the Lord for help.  You might think that your problem is too small for Him to be worried about, or feel like you are bothering Him with every little thing.  There is no problem too big, or TOO SMALL to take to Him.  You are just as important as Peter’s mother-in-law!

Matthew 10:29-31

29 "Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.

30 "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 "So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

This isn’t as big a deal for me, but God knows the exact number of hairs on your head!  If this is true, shouldn’t you trust Him to know exactly what’s right for you in even the smallest details?

No matter what you issue is, whether marriage, family, friends, business, or money; no matter how big or how small the problem may seem to you, the Lord stands ready to help you just like He did in Peter’s house.  All you have to do is ask Him!
