To those of you who were in Sunday school class last Sunday, I apologize for the repetition. Well, on second thought, no I don’t, because:
Philippians 3:1
1 Finally, my
brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things again is no
trouble to me, and it is a safeguard for you.
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? How do you decide what your real worth is? Do you compare your looks, your wealth, your house, car, clothes, or your friends with those of other people?
2 Corinthians 10:12
12 For
we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with some of those who commend
themselves; but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare
themselves with themselves, they are without understanding.
If you base any part of your image of your self on a comparison with other people, then you will be disappointed! There will always be someone better looking, with a better house or car, more money, or more friends!
To truly have a good self-image, you have to see yourself in the mirror of the Word of God:
2 Corinthians 3:18
18 But we all, with
unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being
transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the
Spirit.
Only the mirror of the Word of God will tell you exactly what you need to know about yourself. It’s all based on having confidence in God.
First, remember that He made us:
Ephesians 2:10
10 For
we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
God made you exactly like you are. He has created you for a particular purpose to perform the exact good works He has prepared for you! This includes all the things that you think of as negatives!
Second, know that God has a particular plan for your life:
Jeremiah 29:11
11 "For I
know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, "plans for
welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.
When you use the mirror of the Word of God to evaluate yourself, and not compare yourself with others, you will have the positive self-image that God wants you to have! You will know that He made you, and that He made you to accomplish a particular purpose. Then you can truly live in passages like this:
1 Corinthians 15:10
10 But by the
grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain;
but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with
me.
When you recognize that you are exactly what you are by the grace of God, you will let the grace of God work in your life to accomplish His purpose.
Don’t you want this kind of self-confidence?
Psalms 139:14
14 I will give thanks
to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows
it very well.
Now, don’t you feel better about yourself?
