How strange is it that we are studying these feasts on
EXACTLY the same day? Passover started April
12th (yesterday) at
Remember from yesterday that Jesus Christ fulfilled these prophetic feasts in the exact appropriate way, on the exact feast day.
Feast
of Unleavened Bread.
Leviticus 23:6-8
6 "Then on the fifteenth day of the same month there is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the LORD; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.
7 "On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall not do any laborious work.
8 "But for seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD. On the seventh day is a holy convocation; you shall not do any laborious work.'"
The 15th of Nissan. This is the day after the Passover.
1 Corinthians 5:6
6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?
Of course you can figure out, Jesus Christ is the one without leaven or sin. He also said He was the Bread of Life.
This one we will see points to the burial of Jesus.
On Passover, the father of the house would take 3 loaves of unleavened bread, and put them in a linen envelope with 3 pockets. These three loaves represented God the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Two of them would be placed in the pocket whole, but the third he would break, to represent God the Son.
On the Feast of Unleavened Bread, he would take the third broken piece out, and hide it away or bury it!
This was obviously fulfilled when Jesus was put into the ground. Jesus, the unleavened bread of life, without sin, was broken for our sins, and buried in the ground.
What a coincidence!
Micah 7:18a
18 Who is a God like
You, (obviously nobody!)
God performed this exact ceremony the day Jesus was buried, on the very day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Here is the fulfillment.
Matthew 27:57-60
57 When it was evening, (so this was the next day in Jewish calendar) there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.
58 This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.
(Note that this was very
unusual. Usually they would leave the
dead bodies on the cross for weeks, as a deterrent to crime!)
59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.
What a coincidence!
Look what Paul says about these 2 feasts:
1 Corinthians 5:6-8
6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?
7 Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. (Remember God sees us without sin because of our union with Jesus Christ) For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.
8 Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
John 12:23-24
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
This will lead us into the next feast, the Feast of Firstfruits. Tune in tomorrow!
