What is the most dangerous sin?  I believe it’s arrogance, or trust in yourself.  There are many people who never believe in Jesus Christ because they don’t see their need for salvation.  Do you know someone who thinks they are a good person, and probably deserve to go to heaven?  Before you can be saved, you have to come to the realization of your own sinfulness.

The Bible is crystal clear about this principle:

Romans 3:10

10 as it is written,

"THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;

Romans 3:23

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Isaiah 1:5b-6

5 …The whole head is sick

And the whole heart is faint.

6 From the sole of the foot even to the head

There is nothing sound in it,

Only bruises, welts and raw wounds,

Not pressed out or bandaged,

Nor softened with oil.

Jeremiah 17:9

9 "The heart is more deceitful than all else

And is desperately sick;

Who can understand it?

Hopefully, if you’re reading this, then you have realized your need for a savior to pay the price for your sins.  But as a Christian, this recognition of sin is no less important.  It’s very easy to fall into the attitude of the Pharisees, saying “I am not a sinner.”

Luke 18:9-14

9 And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt:

10 "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

11 "The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: "God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

12 "I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.'

13 "But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, "God, be merciful to me, the sinner!'

14 "I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Be very careful of that “I’m not a sinner” mentality!  When you have the attitude of the Pharisee, that you are not a sinner like other people, it makes you focus on yourself, and your own strength.  When you have the attitude of the tax collector, and recognize your sinfulness, it makes you focus on the SOLUTION, Jesus Christ!
