Deuteronomy 32:4

4 "The Rock! His work is perfect,

For all His ways are just;

A God of faithfulness and without injustice,

Righteous and upright is He.

Our God is a God of faithfulness.  What exactly does that word mean for us?  Faithfulness is the consistency and stability of God.  It means that He cannot do anything that would compromise His perfect character.  There is only one person who is totally faithful to you, and that is God!  The faithfulness of God depends entirely upon who and what God is.  His faithfulness never depends on your spiritual status!

He has never made a promise that He has not kept.

Deuteronomy 7:9a

9 "Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation …

It’s important to have confidence that God will always be faithful to us because God is God.  Even if we fall away from our relationship with him, and get caught up in the world or distracted, He CANNOT be unfaithful to us!

2 Timothy 2:13

13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

The faithfulness of God is a great principle to rely on every day.  Apply this to the principle of forgiveness of sins:

1 John 1:9

9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If God is perfectly faithful, and unable to be unfaithful, then when we confess our sins He is honor-bound to forgive us that sin, and cleanse us!  We have to realize that when we name our sin to God, He faithfully forgives us, no matter what the sin, no matter how we feel about it!  So even forgiveness of sins relies completely on the character and faithfulness of God.

He forgives us, not because of our attitude or penance, but because of His own character.

No matter how unbelievable you may think the promises of God are, you must have confidence that God will accomplish them.  Look at Abraham and Sarah.  Even though she was 90 and he was 99, they had faith that God had promised them a son:

Romans 4:20-21

20 yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God,

21 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.

These principles on faithfulness should be a reminder to you that the issue is not whether you are a winner or a loser, but whether you are a believer or an unbeliever.  If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, the God is ALWAYS faithful to you, no matter what your condition.  God is going to be faithful to you, whether you believe it or not.  Why not have the confidence that comes from knowing He is going to be faithful?

1 Thessalonians 5:24

24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
