There always seems to be a conflict between God and science.  Many people believe that you either have to believe one or the other.  But scientific laws are in reality divine laws.  The only reason scientific laws continue to function is that they are being controlled by the Lord Jesus Christ, who created all things, and ensures the stable continuation of the universe and all its creatures and atmosphere:

 

Colossians 1:15-17

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. (We know we’re talking about Jesus Christ here)

16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities -- all things have been created through Him and for Him.

17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

 

John 1:3

3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

 

The Lord Jesus Christ is the one who both created and sustains the universe. 

 

Hebrews 1:3a

3 And He (Jesus Christ) is the radiance of His (God the Father’s) glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.

 

Scientific laws are merely divine laws that belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, the One who sustains the universe.  Science does not develop or enforce these natural laws, Jesus Christ does.  As we can classify and discover these scientific laws, we have to realize that they all depend on the faithfulness of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 

The Word of God has always been a step or two ahead of scientific discoveries.  Remember the promise God made to Abraham:

 

Genesis 15:5

5 And He took him outside and said, "Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."

 

In the 3rd century BC Eratosthenes counted 675 stars as scientific fact.  If that were true, Abraham’s descendants would have stopped before the fourth generation!  In 1862, with the aid of telescopes, science declared that there were 300,000 stars.  Today science tells us that there are over 200,000,000,000 (that’s 200 billion) stars in our galaxy alone.

 

Scientists used to say that the world was suspended on the back of elephants or turtles.  Now we know that the earth is suspended in space, just like the Bible says:

Job 26:7

7 "He stretches out the north over empty space

And hangs the earth on nothing.

 

Scientists thought the world was flat until 1521 when Magellan circled the earth.  Now we know the earth is round, just like the Bible says:

 

Isaiah 40:22

22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,

And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,

 

Don’t look at science as something completely opposite to the Word of God.  Science is simply a study of the faithfulness of God in holding the universe together. 

 

It should give us great confidence to know that no matter what we do on earth, Jesus Christ is still in control, holding everything together:

 

Luke 8:25

25 … "Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?"

 

He controls the sea (Psalms 33:7), He controls the wind (Ps 148:8, Mark 4:39), He controls the rain (Gen 7:4), He controls the thunder and hail (Exodus 9:33), He makes the lightning (Jeremiah 10:13).

 

In other words, every single significant AND insignificant detail regarding nature is totally in the control of Jesus Christ!

 

Matthew 10:29-30

29 "Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.

30 "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
