2 Timothy 3:16

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;

I’ve been listening to a conference that really brought out the importance of this verse.  How important is the Bible to you?  Do you view every bit of it as inspired by God and profitable?  To truly live the life that God has for you, you must base your decisions and values on the infallible, inspired word of God.  If the Bible is not completely inspired by God, then it is no good! It’s no better than the Koran, or the Book of Mormon.

John 1:1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Word of God and our Savior Jesus Christ are intimately united.  If one is true, then both are true; but if one is false, then BOTH are false, and your salvation is not accomplished!

I especially like this passage where Jesus talks about the Scriptures:

Matthew 5:17-18

17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

Christ viewed each letter of scripture as inspired by God.  Look at the same verse in the New King James Version:

Matt 5:18

18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

The word translated jot is the Greek IOTA, referring to the Hebrew YOD, which is the letter i, the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet.

The word translated tittle is the Greek KERAIA, and it refers to a single stroke of a letter in Hebrew.  If one single stroke was left out of a letter r, it became the letter b, for instance.  To put this in terms we can follow a little better without spending the next few months studying Hebrew, think of the small stroke that can change a c to an o.  It’s just the little tiny line on the right side.

That tiny little line make a huge difference – with one little tittle you can change cat to oat, and wouldn’t you rather have oatmeal for breakfast than catmeal?

Jesus was saying that every single tiny little part of the Word of God is totally inspired by God, and is worthy of us putting our faith in it.  To live the Christian life, you must recognize the Word of God as absolute truth.

Prov 30:5

5 Every word of God is pure;

He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
